What is folliculitis?

Folliculitis can occur before or after laser hair removal when the follicles become inflamed, infected or damaged. There could be many reasons why this could occur. Some of the most common reasons is shaving before treatment, if the razor is old or was kept in a damp or wet area for example the shower or bathroom, the blades become rusty (not visible to the eye) and carry bacteria which leads to an infection of the follicles. So it is very important to make sure you use a new razor before shaving to reduce bacteria being transferred onto the skin. Another common reason is after treatment if tight, unclean clothing is worn. The clothing could rub against the skin and infect the follicles, so that is why it’s important to wear loose, clean clothing after treatment and avoid any exercise or gym workouts so the follicles do not become infected or blocked. Folliculitis can also be caused from ingrown hairs and this can reduced by having laser hair removal. Once the hair follicles are removed via laser then there will be no more ingrown hairs.

Before any treatment at KLYNIK we always provide pre and post advice to avoid any adverse reactions. It is very important that the advice is followed to prevent any conditions such as folliculitis.
